MVSD Extreme Heat Safety Update - September 11, 2026

Dear Mountain View Families, 

Our District takes the health and safety of our students seriously and follows established extreme-heat protocols aligned with California Department of Public Health guidance.

At this time, MVSD has not been informed, nor have we identified, any heat-related incidents involving students or staff. As part of normal school operations, emergency medical services may occasionally be called to assist a student or employee when medical attention is needed. During this recent period of high temperatures, two medical incidents required emergency medical assistance; both were identified as pertaining to other medical needs and were not identified as heat-related.

The District did review a concern regarding student physical activity after it was brought to our attention by an MVSD parent. The matter was investigated by district and site staff and appropriate actions were taken. 

Extreme Heat Guidance for Outdoor Activities
MVSD schools continue to follow our Extreme/Excessive Heat Guidance for Outdoor Activities as prescribed by the California Department of Public Health. Schools monitor National Weather Service HeatRisk levels and adjust activities accordingly. During elevated heat conditions, staff are directed to limit or cancel strenuous outdoor activity, increase access to water, shade, and cooling stations, increase hydration and rest breaks, and move activities indoors when required. 

During multi-day Red HeatRisk conditions such as what we have been experiencing this week, outdoor physical activities, including PE, running and recess, are moved indoors or canceled. 

We appreciate families who bring concerns directly to our schools or District staff so they can be reviewed promptly and accurately.
