We hope everyone had a joyful and restful time off with their loved ones with the opportunity to make memories together. As the Winter Break comes to an end, we are eagerly looking forward to seeing our students back in school this next Monday, January 6, 2025!
We want all our students to show up for their success this next trimester. To help, here are some tips to help our families and students transition smoothly back to school after winter break:
Re-establish Routines
Start adjusting bedtime and wake-up schedules to ease back into the routine.
Plan and practice morning routines, including breakfast and getting out the door on time.
Prepare Supplies and Materials
Ensure backpacks are packed with necessary school supplies.
Check that any homework or projects assigned over the break are completed and ready to submit.
Communicate About Goals
Talk with your student about their goals for the new term—academically, socially, and personally.
Reflect on the previous trimester’s challenges and successes to make improvements.
Update Calendars
Mark key dates such as upcoming holidays, school events, student free days and parent conferences on your calendar and share with the whole family to avoid last-minute surprises. Here are a few upcoming dates with modified schedule or no school:
Jan. 20 - Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Feb. 4 - Parent Conferences (Modified Day)
Feb. 10 - Lincoln’s Birthday
Feb. 17 - Presidents Day
Mar. 3 - Student-Free Day
Mar. 24 - Student Report Cards
Apr. 18-25 - Spring Break
May 26 - Memorial Day
Jun. 11 - Last day of school / Student Report Cards
Encourage a Positive Mindset
Share excitement about returning to school and reconnecting with friends and teachers.
Remind your child that it’s a fresh start and an opportunity to try new things or improve.
Ease Back Into Study Habits
Spend some time reviewing notes, texts, or any material that helps refresh what was learned before the break.
Organize and Declutter
Clean out your backpack and workspace to start fresh and organized.
Double-check for any forgotten assignments or materials you’ll need on the first day back.
Reconnect with Friends
Reach out to friends to talk about the break or make plans to catch up during recess or lunch.
Set Small Goals
Think about one or two goals for the upcoming term, like improving a subject, participating more in class, or joining a new activity.
Prioritize Sleep and Hydration
Avoid staying up late in the last few days of the break. Rested and hydrated students are more focused and energetic.
Stay Positive
Remind yourself that school is a chance to grow, learn, and succeed. Be open to the challenges ahead and tackle them with confidence.
Practice Gratitude: Reflect on fun memories from the break and express appreciation for the opportunities ahead.
Be Patient: Allow time to adjust, as transitions can take a few days.
Have a wonderful last weekend of Winter Break Mountain View families.
We look forward to seeing you on Monday as we all know that…Success Starts with Showing Up!
